Hello 🙂 I’m Jodie (she/her) and I currently reside in Vancouver, Canada. I’m left handed lol.
Who/what currently inspires you music-wise that has nothing to do with music?
My mom inspires me, she’s the strongest most resilient person I know.
How did you get your DJ name?
My mother’s last name is Overland.
Fav bpm and why?
It’s a tie between 150 and 160 right now. Always been attracted to fast, somewhat intense music.

Akua, DJ Stingray & Purelink
How do you typically prepare a mix?
I’ll spend a decent amount of time digging (maybe 1-2 weeks depending on the deadline). For some reason I like to try to stretch the limits of what BPMs to play. In this mix I start at 85BPM and finish at 160BPM. I’ll usually make a rough mix, listen to it a couple of times, and run through it again the next day with a fresh set of ears.
Favorite thing to cook currently? (Feel free to include recipe)
I love making spiced rice bowls with pickled vegetables and tofu.

If you had to go back in time music wise what era would it be and why?
Probably late ‘90s early 00’s, the music then is a lot of what I play now.

If you had to describe yourself as liquid, what would it be and why?
I’d like to think I’m like honey, sweet :’)
What is your favorite party/collective where you reside and why?
I love running Freak Hour in Vancouver because my favourite friends/DJs get to perform with me and our choice of headliners. It’s a special event for us.
What was your best moment on the dance floor?
Probably any year I’ve been to Detroit for Movement. Too many amazing memories in that city to name just one.
What is your DJ alter ego?
Overwater when I’m on a boat (the one time my friend rented a yacht that we all got to DJ on)
What is your most recent favorite DJ mix and why?
It’s not very recent, but one that I come back to a lot. Khotin’s mix for Dekmantel is a beautiful piece of art. So many styles, layers, samples. It’s a masterpiece IMO.
Any advice to upcoming DJs?
Don’t listen to self doubt. We all have it. If you want to play vinyl, do it, if you want to play digital, do that, if you want to make music, try. Surround yourself with people who inspire you and are kind. You’ll be surprised how many people are willing to share.
What would you like to see in the future for the dance community?
I hope we all make it through the next couple years with grace and kindness. I hope we can emit into the world what we want through our work as organizers, promoters and artists.
