Hi im Nik/Cromie, bigtime music lover/maker and goof in Los Angeles. One time I was visiting New York in my 20’s skating at the park in the East Village and I got interviewed by a NYTimes reporter about my Vans and got a quote in the paper.
How is everything going with you right now?
Can’t complain, best I’ve been in a while, just wish I had more time/was better at managing the time I have.
What is your favorite thing about the music scene in LA?
Being in it for years and years and having that perspective as I observe it as it grows and changes (or not).
Who currently inspires you music-wise?
Watching footage of concerts from the 90’s when tens and thousands of people would show up to see one act.
What was your silver lining for the year 2020?
Being forced to pump the breaks on the habitual partying and building some healthy new habits around exercise and better sleep.
Favorite thing to cook currently?
Oh, I’m just getting the basics down. Salmon and veggies

Dutch producer Nachtbraker put out some of my fave music to listen and mix with. Cakedog’s 2020 bandcamp EP’s

What is your most recent favorite DJ mix and why?
Exactly what I wanted to hear in the club when it felt like I’d never get to be in one again for a while there. Still dying to get absolutely loose at at party to a set of tunes like this one.
Mix of the year. Unbelievable emotion and depth that lends itself to many repeated listens. Some beautiful and tender memories from a most interesting year associated with this one.
What was your first gig? How did it go?
Kinda the first, back in ‘11 or ‘12. Played records for a handful of new music friends in LA who I thought were so cool (still do) in a retired Fire Island DJ’s driveway in Silver Lake and getting booked to play A Club Called Rhonda off the strength of how it sounded.
Any advice to upcoming producers/DJs?
It’s ok to feel jealous, it’s a window into what you really want for yourself. Resist looking at everything as a transaction. Been nice and uplift those around you in the best way you know how to.
Do you have any upcoming releases/gigs?
Gigging around town again has felt great these past few weeks. Put out two EP’s this year already, so I’m working on replenishing the well and getting the hang of the recently re-wired studio at the moment.
What would you like to see in the future for the dance community?
More inter generational dialogue; old head DJ’s with 20+ years under their belts sharing tunes and tales with the young upstarts, the young DJ’s taking that to heart with respect to make the parties even better and to keep the culture moving forward.
