Introduce yourself 😉

i’m Eli, a nonbinary dj and producer born, raised, and currently living in kansas city

Biggest musical influence?

It would have to be video games. to me it’s the ultimate art form, the fusion of visual art, music/sound, and interactivity. the ability to explore thousands of virtual worlds. i try to evoke a similar sense of futuristic awe in my own music and DJ sets

Dream line-up?

10:00 – 11:00: Spacetime Continuum
11:00 – 12:00: DJ Fantasy
12:00 – 1:30 LFO (RIP)
1:30 – 4:00: Drexciya (also RIP)
4:00 – 7:00: Robert Leiner

Advice for beginning dj’s?

In my opinion, track selection always always always matters more than your technical ability. don’t worry so much about flubbing it, there is always going to be that asshole in the front watching your mixing and scoffing at even the slightest mistake. focus on digging for music you love and have a passion for. technical skill will come naturally to you over time.

Track of the summer?

The new Moni Moni tracks are killing me this summer Monicafreemanxo – Sunrise

What do you wish to see in the future for the dance community?

Here in kansas city, the already-very-limited “dance” community is split between the dubstep bro parties and the art student parties, both of which appear to be more focused on outward appearance and “AeStHeTiCs” than the music itself. the latter is providing a space for people to safely be themselves in, which is amazing. that being said, i would love to see an increased interest in dance parties for the music’s sake here in the midwest (chicago and detroit obviously excluded), particularly in the DIY scene, fused with the focus on representation and amplifying marginalized perspectives that the young queer artist community here in town is bringing to the table.

Favorite late night snack?

Quiktrip hot dog with onions, tomatoes, jalapenos and chipotle sauce 🙂
