Introduce yourself? Pronouns? Where do you currently reside?

I’m Charlotte, pronouns are she/her. I’m from Toronto originally but currently live in NYC (Ridgewood).

How did you get your DJ name?

I changed my instagram handle to it back in 2014 when I first moved to New York for design school (where I studied graphic design, hence the “adobe”). I played my first gig right before the pandemic and needed a name for the flyer and just used that!

3 adjectives that start with the same letter to describe your DJ persona?

Anthemic, Astral, & Angelic 😇

What film would you choose to soundtrack?

Disney’s Fantasia (1940)

What was the first gig you played and how did it go?

My first gig was in February of 2020, my best friend Mason organized a party at H0L0 for a bunch of us to play out for the first time. I think I was opening and was super nervous — I hadn’t learned how to use CDJs so I lugged my tiny Pioneer controller and laptop and had them set up off to the side of the decks. A bunch of friends ended up coming through and I had the best time — I still look back on that night fondly, even the music I played has whispers of where I’m at now in terms of taste, and the videos of it are so funny (I was jumping around behind the booth so much). I remember going home after the party, putting the recording on my phone, and then walking over to see DJ Assault play a Dweller party while listening back to the mix — it was my first time I’d ever heard a recording of myself mixing and I was so excited. I’ve always loved music but never really thought I’d have a way to partake in that way.. Needless to say I was so stoked after that to keep practicing & playing.

Listen to the moment at 44:44 min mark in your PI mix… describe how it makes you feel?

On the edge.

What color would you choose to describe your musical taste right now?

Purple

Best trip of your life so far (Psychedelic or Travel)

That’s tricky.. In recent memory, I was in Europe last summer for a month and it was my first time going away for a while without a core travel companion. I spent time with various friends old and new, and a fair amount of time alone — it was introspective and revealing, I learned a lot about myself and it felt like it came at an important time.

Favorite cozy winter dish to make?

Soups and curries! I’ve found myself experimenting with different combinations of ingredients depending on what I have at home, but have been especially loving using cabbage and purple yams in soups.

Musical goal for next year?

Somewhat related to this mix, but I’d love to play a set different from my typical 120-140bpm vibe. A downtempo set, or a dnb moment.. I’d also love to play outside!

Favorite music memory of 2024

A tie between 2 closing festival sets I saw this summer! Jane Fitz b2b Marco Shuttle at Waking Life, which was such a trip and perfect way to round out a magical festival. And then Priori b2b Cousin’s set at Sustain Release, which had a surreal dance floor and was the perfect chugging journey to carry us through that final stretch of morning.

Favorite sound in recent memory?

Crisp, quiet air in the morning after snowfall, and how you can hear the cold.

Let’s play a pi pi pi game… I give you a situation & you give me a track

First sunrise of the year with your BFF

Petting zoo on microdose

2069 on the beach in Madeira with no sun

What is an ideal sitting to listen to the mix you made?

This is really intended to be listened to in one sitting — when I make a mix like this that have a narrative and are emotionally driven, I like to sit with it for a while and try to listen to it in different situations myself to form a new attachment to it where I can experience it deeply as a listener separate from the crafting of it. I think listening to it alone, when dusk is about to fall, would be nice. I recorded it back in March, so I’ve had a fair amount of time with it and have looked to it when I’ve felt a block or tightness within myself that I want to just lay down and be guided through through music.

Recently, I listened to it while coming up on LSD one evening upstate with my partner.. it really complimented this tension I can feel on psychedelics between feeling uncomfortable as things come up and trying to relax and let go into them. I would recommend it if that’s your cup of tea 🙂

What is your favorite party/collective where you reside and why?

So hard to choose! There’s been several that have been so formative to my musical / dancing journey… Lots of people doing amazing stuff but shoutout to Groovy Groovy & Sustain Release for some very formative memories.

What would you like to see in the future for the dance community?

More dancing, less talking! Longer DJ sets! Parties that don’t make me have to choose them over a night’s sleep! And for everyone to understand the important role they play in the community… in a sense, less emphasis on DJ’s and instead valuing the experience we can create as a collective whole, especially when we support, listen, and really see each other. There’s so much potential there. <3
